eFuel Alliance & ACEM: "Bridging the gap to climate neutrality - The case of eFuels for motorcycles"
The European climate targets require drastic emission reductions from all sectors. The transport sector in particular accounts for a large share of total emissions (about 1/4 of total emissions in 2019). A successful climate policy requires a holistic approach and should include all technologies that contribute to achieving the targets.
In Europe, there were over 39 million motorcycles and scooters on the roads in 2019. Motorized two-wheelers with conventional combustion engines will still play an important role in the foreseeable future. They are small, light and efficient vehicles used for daily commuting or by special services for emergencies. Further, eFuels are a necessary alternative for long ranges or in areas with a lack of infrastructure. The sector also employs over 389,000 people, whose jobs can be protected with a technology-neutral approach. When combined with electric models, carbon-neutral fuels can address the existing stock, sustainably powering future models while protecting the existing production chain.
We would like to discuss the application of eFuels in the two-wheeler sector together with decision-makers from politics and industry, explain the state of the technology and show ways to climate-neutral and accessible mobility.
